Description
Silicone oil is a linear polymer with a siloxane (-Si-O-Si-) backbone, with the general chemical formula (R₂SiO)ₙ (R is typically an organic group such as methyl or phenyl). It combines the heat resistance of inorganic materials with the flexibility of organic materials, boasting extremely low surface tension, excellent high and low temperature resistance, and chemical inertness. It is widely used in cosmetics, medical, electronics, and mechanical lubrication.
Properties
Appearance: Ranges from a colorless, transparent, oily liquid (low viscosity) to a semi-solid paste (high viscosity), odorless or with a slight characteristic odor.
Viscosity Range: 0.65 cSt (low molecular weight) to 1 million cSt (high molecular weight), precisely adjustable.
Temperature Resistance: Stable from -50°C to +250°C (some phenyl silicone oils are resistant to temperatures above 350°C).
Chemical Inertness: Resistant to oxidation, acids, alkalis, and UV rays, with excellent electrical insulation.
Lubricity: Low coefficient of friction (0.01-0.03), suitable for lubrication of precision machinery.
Hydrophobicity: Water contact angle >90°, used in waterproof coatings.
